US Springfield Model 1864 (1863 Type II) Rifle Musket

.58 caliber. 40" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, full length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion ignition muzzleloading military rifle musket with M1864 pattern leaf rear sight, musket combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling swivels on the triggerguard and middle barrel band and a straight shank tulip head ramrod. Standard Springfield lock markings, dated 1864 at the tail. Breech with standard proof and inspection marks and dated 1864 as well. Two partially legible script crouches are present on the counterpane including the GK of arsenal sub-inspector George Kimball and the ESA of Erskine S Allin. {ANTIQUE}

Condition
Very good. Bore very good, showing scattered light surface oxidation and some frosting with fine rifling. Metal with scattered oxidation, discoloration and freckles of light surface rust. Markings remain clear in metal, weaker in wood. Mechanically functional action. Stock with some wear, rounding to the sharp edges and scattered bumps, dings and mars.
